Match Making using Ashkoot is given much importance to check compatibility of couple before marriage. Ashtkoots are determined by the position of Moon in star constellations (also called Janam Nakshatra) and Moon sign (called Janam Rasi) at the time of birth.

These Ashkoots are

Since there are 27 Star Constellations with 4 Charan each resulting 27 X 4 = 108 Charan therefore, there are 108 X 108 = 11664 possibilites to match stars between two individuals. The match of 18 Points (also called Guna) is considered the minimum score to proceed with horoscope matchmaking. Score of 28 is considered good and above 28 is ausipicious. Though each koot has its own significance; Nadi and Bhakut is given utmost importance, probably thats why they are awarded highest scores.

I was advised by a great and learnt personality in early years of my learning Astrology to consider Grahmetri (i.e. whether stars are friends or not) with high importance in ashtkoot compatibility. And as I got chance to check compatibilty of number of horoscopes and found it effects truly to great extent besides other things. Example, if a person is Leo in his/her Moon sign and compatibility is being checked with person Capricorn as Moon sign then as per Grahametri rules this match should not be considered as Lords of both signs are enemies to each other.

Other details would be explained in next articles.
